Some shops around Hull have already started to stock festive goodies four months in advance - to a mixed response.
Keen shoppers have spotted seasonal gifts, selection boxes and Christmas décor in a Hull's B&M store over the last few days, leaving a not-so-festive taste in some people's mouths.
But some people are feeling a bit more cheerful at the prospect of a spot of early Christmas shopping. Some have even suggested it could help those who have a tighter budget better plan for their Christmas purchases.

But for many, after Halloween should be when people start looking forward to Christmas. Debbie said: "Far to early - It's August for goodness sake, at least wait till after Halloween." Kerry agrees: "Halloween, Bonfire Night then think about Christmas. When I was a kid you didn't see Christmas stuff until November."
Janet may not agree but can understand the financial reasoning behind the move. "I used to love Christmas - The build up from the 1st of December was fantastic but August is early. I feel sorry for the poor mums and dads taking their children round the shops. But I do understand that people have to budget."
Sarah can also see the benefit of bringing out the selection boxes early. "This is excellent. Especially for people on Benefits etc. We start buying the chocolate from now on."
Lisa agreed, saying: "Why is everyone so surprised? Things come out earlier, and it helps people put away things so they don't have to rush at the last minute. Not that anyone should panic over Christmas and money, but some people do, and feel they need to buy early.
"Also gives the chance for you to put away early cheap gifts for foodbanks and other charities. Like, children's one which have a big Christmas drive. There's benefits for sure. But obviously I get why it annoys people. Just, don't let it get to you too much."
Emma says that people should be used to the early sightings by now. "The absolute outrage like this doesn't happen every year is hilarious, it can't possibly be a surprise anymore."
However, many feel that celebrating Christmas too early can cause a festive burnout. "Shut the front door. Literally why it’s only August and no wonder Christmas doesn’t feel like Christmas anymore more. There isn't that build up of excitement anymore and it’s ruining the Christmas spirit," says Jamie.
