If you've ever ventured down Holderness Road, chances are you've seen one of the most unique landmarks in East Hull.
Whereas The Mill may be any run-of-the-mill (see what I did there?) pub, the five-storey, 200-year-old windmill makes it instantly recognisable all down Holderness Road.
The landmark is the last surviving mill of its kind within the city - and with the sun shining, Hull Live went to visit the pub to soak in some culture.

As expected, I wouldn't be the only person using the sun as an excuse to hit the pub. The plentiful benches in the heat were nearly completely filled. Directly opposite East Park and Woodford Leisure Centre, places I spent the vast majority of my childhood, I've always noticed this huge windmill but never understood why it was there.
The mill was originally constructed around 1820. On the recently refurbished structure, a blue plaque is highlighted with a titbit of information. "In a cottage near this, his grandfather's mill was born. Joseph Rank, 1854 -1943. Founder of the Milling firm of Joseph Rank Ltd.
Joseph was born in the city and joined the family business of milling. In 1875, Rank established his business after renting a small windmill. As the business grew, in 1885, Rank installed a mechanically driven flour mill at the Alexandra Mill - his business grew to become the fourth largest flour miller in the country.
The mill is one of the last standing in the entire region and was awarded Grade II listed building status back in 1994. Nearly succumbing to time, the pub's brewery applied for some much-needed TLC back in 2020. Nowadays, the towering mill is used as storage for the pub.
Perfect weather for a cider, I popped into the bar inside the cottagey-style pub. Basking in the sun looking at this rural-looking pub shadowed by a 200-year-old mill made Holderness Road feel like a village with a population of about 50 people, rather than being one of the busiest areas in Hull.
After a summer stroll around the glorious East Park, I bet a bit of liquid refreshment or pub grub from here goes down a treat.
The Mill is open from noon - 11 pm every day.
