While out and about for a walk around Cottingham on a rare warm September day, I saw plenty of people heading to a local pub which caught my attention.
A look on TripAdvisor says that The Duke of Cumberland in the heart of the village is the highest-rated pub in the area.
I didn't need much convincing, so this was all I needed to see to persuade me to check out the pub before my train home.
The bar room to the left was soaked in all of the natural light, with the walls decorated in old-timey photos. Always decor that I love to see in a place like this.
A pint of Guinness set me back a just a shy of a fiver - £4.95. With the main bar area already busy, I headed to the other room to grab a seat.

The more secluded area seemed to be mainly for those grabbing a bite to eat. Lit up with vintage Edison lights and fairy lights gave it a fitting autumn vibe. A member of staff started dishing up food for a group of five, and, as somewhat expected for a tightknit village like this, was on first-name terms with the customers.
As the second room was starting to fill up with more people looking to get some food from their tasty-looking menu, I headed outside, following the signs to the beer garden.
Stepping outside, I was shocked. I couldn't believe the size of it. There were plenty of benches to pick from, and a veranda with more glowing fairy lights.
The setting acted as a perfect sit-down opportunity to see what probably will be the last of clear blue skies for the foreseeable future, and to finish my drink.
The Duke of Cumberland is a great little family-friendly spot in the heart of the village. With plenty of rooms and space on offer, and the mix of natural light as well as more atmospheric eating areas means there's something for everyone.
