From banana bread to Victoria sponge, we can't get enough of our home baked goodies.
Soft, sweet cinnamon rolls are a real breakfast treat.
Smothered in thick, gooey frosting, the mouthwatering, spongy bread is adored by adults and children alike.
But they are not the most healthiest of foods nor are they quick to cook.
Social media foodies have been posting easy shortcuts and healthy twists on the classic bake including Instagram baker @cakeontherun.
She has jumped on the microwave baking bandwagon and has showed us how to make a cheat cinnamon roll with just a handful of store cupboard ingredients.
Low in fat and sugar the recipe can easily be made gluten free and vegan friendly if gluten free flour and dairy free yoghurt are used.
It takes 60 seconds to cook in the microwave and it's so easy to make, you don't need to be any good at baking to create it at home.
Microwave cinnamon roll recipe
Ingredients (serves 1)
- 70g self raising flour
- 70g any yoghurt (vanilla or plain)
- 1 tsp margarine or nut butter
- 1 tsp sugar, sweetener or maple syrup
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Method
- Get a large mug and mix the flour and yoghurt together to form a dough.
- Put the dough onto a floured surface and roll into a flat sausage shape.
- Spread over the margarine, sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll up with your fingertips and pop back into the mug.
- Microwave on high for 60 seconds (based on a 900w microwave). Cook for 30-40 seconds longer if you have a lower wattage microwave.
- Frost with thick vanilla yoghurt and a sprinkling of cinnamon sugar or just icing sugar mixed with water. Or if you're feeling naughty make a simple buttercream by mixing 1 tsp margarine with 2 tbsp icing sugar to a smooth paste.
