They described the experience as “a fantastic partnership that has helped local people within the community”. A spokesperson for Hull’s Britannia House Jobcentre Plus said: “This fantastic partnership work saw the store recruit in record time.
“B&M are a great partner of Jobcentre Plus. Jobcentre staff enjoy working with and assisting with their recruitment needs and bringing opportunities to our jobseekers.
“It was a brilliant event helping to recruit great new colleagues for a fantastic existing B&M team.” The event saw 120 candidates booked into five information sessions, led by the B&M team, promoting the new store, the opportunities it offered and how candidates could be considered for the vacancies.
After each session, all the candidates were offered a job interview for the new store; 83 people took advantage of the opportunity and were booked in for direct interviews. Hull Jobcentre Plus said: “The quality of candidates was fantastic with many candidates having retail experience and some exceptional candidates having supervisory and management experience.
“Candidates were very excited and commented on it being a great opportunity to showcase their skills to the B&M team. The interviews were incredibly successful, giving B&M the hard decision on who to offer positions in the store.
“The interviews saw 22 candidates being offered work the following day. This was great for the candidates as lengthy delays in finding out whether they had been offered jobs could have been demotivating.”
