Sara Davies, one of the investors on BBC's Dragons' Den, has thoroughly impressed Home Bargains shoppers with her savvy DIY skills. Taking to Instagram, the mum-of-two shared a thrifty tip that elevated a 'simple' glass vase from Home Bargains into a 'one-of-a-kind' décor piece.
With just a couple of affordable items, Sara, from County Durham, transformed the ordinary item into a sparkling creation. She started by using tape for a perfectly straight guideline before painting the vase's exposed surface with glue.
Once it was set, the crafty entrepreneur showed the gold flakes she intended to stick to the adhesive area. The task required no special tools, and Sara showed how simple it was to press the shiny flakes onto the vase and clean up any mess with tissue.
Commenting on the outcome, Sara said: "It's a great way to make your vase look like a fancy high-end one, when in reality, you've bought a plain glass vase from @homebargains and added some gilding flakes to it. Plus, I do think mine looks better than a really expensive one and it's one of a kind!"
Her fans wasted no time in lauding the straightforward and effective concept. Sara used her new creation as an eye-catching candle holder in her home, reports the Mirror.
One fan said: "Love it! So simple but effective!". Another wrote: "Very creative, it looks so pretty!" A third admirer commented: "Gilding is such a gorgeous process. Possibilities are endless!"
Meanwhile, a fourth claimed: "This is just what I needed to see! Can't find anything that suits my home style and never thought of making something myself!"
The essentials for this project are available on Amazon, where a straightforward kit with all the necessary items is priced at just under £9. Sara also mentioned that people could purchase flakes in various different colours - such as silver and rose gold allowing for a perfect match to one's personal preference with simplicity - available on her own website, Crafters Companion.
The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant is a huge advocate for crafty bits of home décor that won't break the bank. She regularly shares ideas on her social media pages from home bits to activities that even the kids can get involved with during the summer holidays.
