The places where drivers have racked up the most penalty points for committing road offences have been revealed. You can use our interactive map to find out what the standard is like in your neighbourhood.
Nationally, a total of 3,461 people have more than 12 points on their licence. That includes 297 with more than 20 points, and eight people with more than 50.
The most points any one individual has on their driving licence is 176, according to the DVLA’s data. That person lives in the CH5 postcode area, which is west of Chester, just across the Welsh border.
A driver in the OL4 postcode area (Oldham) has 126 points on their licence according to the DVLA’s data, while someone in WR4 (Worcester) has 102 points on their licence, someone in HP13 (High Wycombe) has 96 points, and a person in CT14 (Kent) has 72, as does someone in L39 (Ormskirk).

There are are four postcode areas in Bradford where one out of every 20 drivers living there has at least six points on their licence.
A total of 722 people living in the BD3 area - which covers Barkerend, Bradford Moor and Thornbury - have six or more points according to the latest data from the DVLA. That works out at 5.1% of drivers living there, which is the highest percentage of any postcode area in Great Britain.
The second highest percentage is in BD1 - which covers Bradford city centre and Little Germany - where 87 residents have at least six points on their licence. That works out as 5.0%.
In BD8 - Girlington, Manningham and Lower Grange - 4.9% of drivers have at least six points, while in BD9 - Frizinghall and Heaton - 4.8% of drivers have six or more points. Jointly completing the top five worst postcode areas for bad drivers are LS9 - which covers a number of areas including Burmantofts, Cross Green, Gipton, Harehills and Richmond Hill - WF13 - which covers Dewsbury Moor, Ravensthorpe and Staincliffe - and TS1 - which covers Middlesbrough Town Centre, Gresham, University and Abingdon.
One in every 22 drivers in each area (4.5%) have at least six points on their licence. In reported road collisions in Great Britain in 2023 there were an estimated:
- 1,645 fatalities, a decline of 4% compared to 2022
- 29,643 killed or seriously injured (KSI) casualties, little change compared to 2022
- 132,063 casualties of all severities, a decline of 3% compared to 2022
Considering the different road user types and demographics, the statistics show:
- of the 4 main road user types, the road user type with the biggest estimated percentage change for 2023 compared to 2022 for fatalities was motorcyclists, which showed a decline of 12%
- of the 4 main road user types, pedal cyclists had the biggest estimated percentage change for 2023 compared to 2022 for all casualties, which showed a decline of 6%
- in 2023, 75% of fatalities and 61% of casualties of all severities were male
