Head back to 2003 to some great nights out in the city

Here we take a trip back to some of the pubs and clubs of Hull back in 2003.

The photos were originally taken for our Big Night Out pages as a bit of regular fun, showing the vibrant nightlife of our city. The gallery shows a combination of venues that are either long lost or still with us.

Many will remember Jazzbo Browns, part of the leisure area at St Andrew's Quay that closed a year later, LA's on Ferensway, and The Lamp, in Norfolk Street. There's also a few pictures from The Haworth Arms, which is still going strong at the corner of Cottingham Road and Beverley Road.

Elsewhere in 2003, the news was dominated by the Iraq War, leading to a demonstration involving around 2 million people in London - the largest in UK history. Meanwhile, in entertainment, the fifth Harry Potter book, the Order Of The Phoenix, was published, Where Is The Love? by the Black Eyed Peas was the best-selling single of the year, Finding Nemo and The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King topped the year-end box office, and sales of DVDs overtook those of VHS tapes for the first time as the digital home entertainment revolution charged on.
