A baggage handler and luggage pundit has issued a crucial piece of advice to British holidaymakers: steer clear of packing four specific items before you jet off. Those travelling to destinations within the European Union are particularly warned against including these objects in their luggage.
Sharing expertise on Reddit, the airport staffer highlighted four things that those using the UK's major carriers encompassing EasyJet, Ryanair, British Airways, Jet2, and TUI should not pack. These include food items, beverages (alcohol in particular), medication, and fragrances.
Elaborating on the reasoning, the expert said: "They rot, break or leak, open. It smells, especially alcohol. Then I smell all day after picking up a bag that leaked."
Echoing this sentiment, another user underscored the importance of robust and rollable luggage for those with hefty suitcases, championing hard-case bags with four wheels for being lightweight, easy to handle, stackable and secure.
Adding to the discussion, an additional commenter emphasised the vital step of tag removal from luggage, explaining: "Remove old tags, if you have a bag tag from two years ago, as well as a load of other ones, it takes us infinitely longer to find the right date, for where it's supposed to be going, god forbid we actually misinterpret it and send it to the wrong place, this almost always happens because the tags are confusing and we only have an hour to sort 800 bags going to 3 places. (one person complained that we removed the old tags from their bag. We were furious.)", reports Birmingham Live.
One savvy traveller advised: "Pack a full bag if you can, Obviously people like to leave space for shopping, but to maintain the stability and shape of the bag, fill it with something, newspaper, bubblewrap, or something, just so you dont have a load of empty space for your clothes to mover around, (this will decrease creasing in shirts and dresses as well! )".
Another chimed in with a humorous tip: "Picking out luggage that is ugly as sin will also guarantee nobody takes it off the carousel if you need to go pee or take a while to get through customs," adding, "Also very easy to spot."
