The first half of July might have been a bit disappointing but it's certainly warmed up since with plenty of dry weather - though not always sunny - and more in the forecast.

Being a region with a decent selection of coastal towns, not to mention verdant open spaces in more urban areas, there's no shortage of places to enjoy the sunshine - and of course people have been doing just that for a long, long time.

We've plucked a selection of photos from the Hull Daily Mail archive of people out and about making the most of the sunny weather in days gone by. The images take in the 1960s to the 1980s and include Hull city centre, Bridlington's beaches and more.

Fingers crossed for more days we can have some fun in the sun before summer 2024 is over!
