Repair work on the Ouse Bridge is now expected to be completed within the next two months.

National Highways had previously hoped the work on the M62 bridge would be completed by the end of August but this target was pushed back in July. In a new update, it has been revealed that, due to "poor summer weather", it is now expected work will be completed by "late October".

In a statement issued on Wednesday (September 4), National Highways said: "Due to the need for additional work and challenges posed by poor summer weather, the completion of repairs on Ouse Bridge has been delayed. We now expect to finish the work by late October. Once completed, all lanes will be reopened, and the national speed limit will be reinstated.

"Even after the lanes reopen, there will still be some overnight lane closures as we continue to complete work under the bridge structure.

"In addition to the primary repairs, we're also using this time to carry out further maintenance and weatherproofing on ducts and cabling. This proactive approach is intended to reduce the need for future disruptions in the area.

"We appreciate your patience as we work to ensure the long-term safety and reliability of Ouse Bridge."

Repairs to the Ouse Bridge began two-and-a-half years ago in March 2022 following the discovery of damaged joints. A complex joint replacement and repair scheme has been taking place with a 30mph speed limit imposed to traffic on the crossing, enforced by average speed cameras.
