Hull should prepare for a hot one, weather forecasters have said.

Temperatures of up to 30C are on the cards locally for Monday, August 12. The day is down to be one of mostly clear blue skies and full sunshine, with sunny intervals predicted for part of the afternoon.

A Met Office spokesperson said that Monday will be windy in the north generally, with thunderstorms and heavy rain steadily moving eastwards, but not forecast to reach as far as Hull. Elsewhere, sunny spells are forecast with variable cloud amounts and the conditions set to be “hot and humid” across England and eastern Wales.

A yellow warning for thunderstorms just skirts the western and northern parts of East Yorkshire on Monday. An area west of Driffield might catch some of the storms and Pocklington is also included in the confines of the warning.

A yellow alert for thunderstorms means there could be some disruption and damage to infrastructure. There is the possibility of spray and sudden flooding on roads, a chance of power cuts and possible damage to buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

A clear night for Hull on Monday will see temperatures fall to no lower than 14C, meaning a restless night for many into Tuesday. Anyone hoping for a spot or two of rain to water the garden or the allotment might be left wanting, if the longer-range forecast is anything to go by.

The rest of the week is down to have sun with some cloud at times right through until next weekend. At least the temperatures will fall slightly to a more comfortable 21C to 23C later in the week, although Tuesday will still have highs around 26C in the Hull area.
