Hull FC's dismal campaign ended last Saturday with a 24th defeat of the Super League season (25 including the Challenge Cup). With just three wins to their name all year, it was a miserable season, with the team stats suggesting as such. Here, Hull Live looks at the numbers and how they rank among other Super League clubs.
Tries: 60 | 11th
Hull FC managed just 60 tries in Super League this season, with only London Broncos scoring less. Their top try scorer was Lewis Martin with nine. The top try scorers, meanwhile, were Hull KR, who have posted 133.
Goals: 42 | 12th
The Black and Whites had five different kickers this year, with Jack Charles, Ben Reynolds, Darnell McIntosh, Liam Sutcliffe, and Jordan Lane all kicking at least one goal. Warrington have kicked the most with 113.
Tackles: 8,303 | 4th
Only Leeds Rhinos, Huddersfield Giants, and London Broncos made more tackles than Hull FC this season, all sides in the bottom half of the table. Elsewhere, Catalans Dragons and Castleford Tigers make up the top seven, with Hull KR the only play-off team wedged in between. Wigan, at the top of the league table, made the least. Says a lot.
Missed tackles: 1,073 | 2nd
No surprises that London, Hull, and Castleford, the bottom three sides, were the only teams to miss over 1,000 tackles this season. Something to tighten up next season. Warrington, meanwhile, missed the fewest with 705.
Carries: 4,432 | 12th
No team saw less of the ball than Hull FC, who were fighting an uphill battle for most of the year. On the contrary, Hull KR made the most carries in the competition, posting 5,267.
Metres: 28,548 | 11th
A reflection of the lack of carries. Hull just didn't have the ball enough, and when they did, they just didn't do enough with it, averaging 1,057 metres a game. Warrington, meanwhile, posted the most, over 8,000 more than Hull over the course of the season, an average of 1,339 more a game.
Average gain: 6.44 | 10th
Only Castleford and London posted a worse figure. However, this stat is pretty tight across the league. Wigan are the highest with 7.04.
Clean Breaks: 78 | 11th
Only London posted fewer clean breaks than Hull. For contrast, Wigan Warriors posted 160.
Tackle busts: 820 | 10th
Only Castleford and London busted fewer tackles than Hull. Catalans made the most with 1,050.
Offloads: 304 | 1st
No team made more offloads than Hull FC, with Herman Ese'ese leading the way. However, they clearly weren't making the most of second phase play, given the numbers elsewhere. Huddersfield made the fewest offloads with 153.
Dummy half runs: 200 | 9th
A sign that Hull's hookers tended to pass the ball rather than run it. Hull KR, meanwhile, top this count with 334. No surprises there with Jez Litten and Matt Parcell in their team.
Errors: 279 | 3rd
Again, this stat is pretty tight among the competition, but it's still a little worrying that Hull are this high given how little possession they had. Shows the need to tidy up around the ball. Only Catalans and Leeds made more errors. Hull KR made the fewest with 247.
Penalties: 176 | 2nd
Only Wigan gave away more penalties than Hull FC. Warrington conceded the fewest, with 122 to their name.
Cards: 23 | 1st
Hull were dealt 23 cards this season: 4 red and 19 yellow. Next up were Leigh with 19 (all yellow) with discipline a clear area of improvement next year. London conceded the fewest with eight (all yellow).
