Hull FC have knocked back a recent move from Hull KR to poach their latest first-team talents. Hull Live understands that the Robins made recent ploys to acquire teenage pair Callum Kemp and Ryan Westerman, who both made their first senior appearances in Super League for the Black and Whites last Saturday.
Both players are highly regarded within rugby league circles in Hull, with Rovers attempting to lure the duo to Craven Park, with any moves subject to a compensation fee. However, those attempts have proved to be unsuccessful, with Hull instead tying down Kemp to a first-team deal.
The half-back drew in praise from Simon Grix after an encouraging Super League debut, with the club since working quickly to extend his deal beyond the second year of his academy contract in 2025. Kemp will now train this pre-season as an official member of the first-team squad, something he has been doing for the past several weeks after an impressive first season at under-18s level.
The Academy Players Player of the year will be joined by his twin brother, Lloyd, who has also signed a first-team deal and will take up his place within the senior squad for pre-season this November. Lloyd is capable of playing at full-back or at centre, with the twins, who came through the Hull Wyke system, both committing their futures to the club.
Meanwhile, Hull Live understands that Hull had already tied Westerman down to a first-team deal prior to last week, but that didn’t stop the Robins, who again would have had to pay a compensation fee, from showing their interest. The centre, who came through the ranks at Beverley Braves, also had an encouraging first-team debut having played for England Academy earlier this year, with the player long backed for a big future at the club.
As well as the Kemp twins and Westerman, Hull have extended deals for Davy Litten, Harvey Barron, Lewis Martin, Zach Jebson, Denive Balmforth, Matty Laidlaw, Logan Moy, and Jack Charles this year. The likes of Will Gardiner and Nick Staveley were already signed up for 2025.
Elsewhere, Will Kirby and Roman Dawson have also signed first-team deals, as previously reported by Hull Live, with the club still to confirm their full list of academy promotions.
