Hull has a weather warning in force until midnight as heavy rainfall hits the UK with some parts of the country at risk of flooding.
The Met Office has issued a yellow-level weather warning for rain, meaning disruption is possible including closed roads, difficult driving conditions, heavy traffic, power cuts, flooding, and bus and train cancellations. Our region had previously been included in a higher 'amber' level warning area, but this has since been moved further south to parts of the Midlands, South West and South East of England.
East Yorkshire rivers have not been named in active flood alerts but there is a "medium" risk of flooding across the entire of East Yorkshire today, according to the government's flood alert website.
It said: "It’s likely that runoff from rainfall or blocked drains will cause properties and roads to flood. If this happens, your life might be in danger. It’s possible but not expected that overflowing rivers will cause properties and roads to flood." However, the risk of flooding is expected to be reduced to "very low" on Tuesday.
The weather forecast says there will be occasional heavy rain in Hull and East Yorkshire today until about midnight. The heaviest rain is expected this morning but there is a risk of further downpours throughout the rest of the day.
In its forecast for Monday in the area, the Met Office said: "Cloudy to overcast with persistent and occasionally heavy rain through much of the day.
"The band will be slow-moving, bringing notable rainfall accumulations across the region, particularly over the North York Moors. Maximum temperature 14°C."
Periods of heavy rain will continue throughout the week though sunny spells are likely at times, although temperatures are set to become cooler and more autumnal than of late.
In the longer range forecast for the UK, the weather service reported: "Through Saturday and Sunday, a good deal of fine weather across the UK. Many areas will be dry with spells of sunshine, although a few showers are likely in places, particularly in parts of the north and northwest.
"Into the following week, unsettled conditions look likely to return for many parts of the UK as Atlantic frontal systems spread in from the west. These are expected to bring spells of rain, heavy in places, with a risk of strong winds. Temperatures are likely to be below normal throughout."
