How the big Hull Fair clean-up transforms Walton Street - before, during and after
Unsung heroes from council crews were up at the crack of dawn as rides and stalls began leaving
Hull Fair is over for another year and as as showmen and women dismantled their rides and stalls on Sunday morning, council workers stepped into begin the big clean-up.
The unsung heroes of the event have been tidying up the Walton Street fairground and surrounds every night during the fair's run, but the biggest operation of all began in the early hours of Sunday morning. Around 68 tonnes of rubbish is collected during the fair, with the largest amount cleared at the end.
Cleaners were up at the crack of dawn, with a team of 15 people on the ground, along with those operating the sweepers and lorries. They began at 5.30am and the work was due to take around nine hours to complete.

On Saturday night, large piles of rubbish and overflowing bins could be seen, particularly along Walton Street itself, where most of the food stalls had been situated. As a steady stream of lorries and caravans began driving away from Walton Street this morning, one worker who spoke to Hull Live said they were "well on top" of the clean-up operation, but could only complete the task once all the rides and stalls had left.
Take a look at the photos below to see what it was like last night, the work being carried on today and how much cleaner Walton Street already looks.
