A Hollywood actor and an acclaimed director are backing a new Hull film festival.
Vincent Regan – who has appeared in blockbuster movies such as 300, Clash of the Titans, Luther: The Fallen Sun, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom – will play a key role in the 'Unthinkable' festival alongside director Mark Herman, who is famed for films including Brassed Off, and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.
They will help judge short films by local directors, with a £200 cash prize and trophy for the best. It is hoped that the festival will encourage local filmmaking talent around Hull and East Yorkshire.

The new festival will build on Hull's recent success as a filming location for big-budget productions including Enola Holmes 2, The Crown and Apple TV's Blitz.
Organisers say anyone of any age can enter a film into the contest, with no restrictions on what can be included – other than a maximum length of 15 minutes. Production values are of less importance than original ideas and creativity, they add. Anything from documentaries to music videos and video art will be considered.
Film-maker Keaton B-McD, the main organiser, said: "We set up Unthinkable to help inspire a new generation of filmmakers. Hull's got so much potential."
He added: "There are a lot of films coming into Hull, but not a lot of film coming out of Hull. Our aim is to build a hub for local filmmaking and bring filmmakers into the area."
Festival organisers are working alongside Hull Truck Theatre and Hull Independent Cinema, while a performance is also due to be staged at Hull Fair. It is hoped that the Film Festival will grow into a week-long annual event and help to nurture a new generation of filmmaking talent.
Screenings will be held at Hull Truck Theatre on Friday October 13 and there will be a pop-up event in Humber Street on Saturday October 14, followed by a closing party at the Adephi Club that evening.
Among the other judges taking part will be artist and musician Richie Culver, a former worker in a caravan factory who went on to study at the Royal College of Art. He will be also be taking part in a "waltz performance" at Hull Fair on Thursday October 12.
Submissions will need to be submitted before the deadline of September 21. Further details can be found on the Unthinkable website.
