Fancy flying on Harry Potter’s broom, trying out an X-Wing for size or having your picture taken with Pikachu and friends?

It’s all happening in Hull over the August bank holiday weekend. Creed Conventions is delivering Hull Comic-Con and Collectors’ Fair, dedicated to all things sci-fi, on Sunday, August 25, from 10am to 5pm.

Organisers have said the event, at the Allam Sport Centre, Inglemire Lane, Hull, will be “a great day for families, sci-fi collectors, fans, and every other kind of comic-con fan”. A spokesperson said: “There is lots to see and do, including displays and props, traders selling out-of-this-world collections, meeting celebrities from TV and the movies.

“For those that like cosplay, there will be a wide array of cosplayers on arrival. Fans attending are invited to dress up as their favourite TV, film or other fictional character and be ready to compete in our cosplay competitions.”

Celebrity guests on the day include Maria Taylor, best known for her role in Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, and Lila Lasso, most recently seen as "Jamie" in Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2. Creed Conventions is hosting Pikachu and friends - you can get a free photo with them – and for Guardians Of The Galaxy fans, you can pose with a life-size Groot in one of the iconic prop displays set up for the day.

There are opportunities to sit with the Gremlins in the cinema; star in your own scene from Jaws and fly just like in the films on the green screen Harry Potter broom feature. Dr Who’s TARDIS, an X-Wing, the time-travelling DeLorean car from Back To The Future and a number of movie box displays – step inside and become your favourite character – will all be on show.

More features will please fans of Scream and the Nightmare Before Christmas. The event also includes a free retro gaming zone.

The spokesperson said: “Our aim is simple, to bring the fun and excitement of the comic-con experience to people of all ages across the UK. Whether you are a seasoned veteran of the convention circuit or just curious to have a look for the very first time to see what all the fuss is about, we promise a unique and enjoyable day out that will bring a smile to your face and hopefully offer you something you may not have seen before. “
