A vintage sportswear shop is opening in Trinity Market and it's the brainchild of a young woman from Hull who decided to go down the entrepreneurial path rather than university.

Brooke Pecham, 18, has been busy decorating Unit 13, now known as Vintage by Brooke, at the market since getting the keys and plans to open on Monday, September 2. To get the spot, she had to design a business plan and it impressed enough that she was given the lease.

She said: "I'm really excited, honestly. I have just finished college and I didn't want to go to university, didn't want to go and get a normal job so this is something I am really looking forward to doing."

Brooke has been scouring car boot sales for the highest-quality items and has found many big-name brands and iconic 1990s fashions hidden among the usual odds and ends. "It's nicer than just buying brand-new clothes," she said.

"We've got Nike, Addidas, Kappa, all the vintage clothing. We're going down the nineties route. I like it and it's very trendy at the minute. Everyone seems to be wearing it."

Brooke said there is a general shift towards re-using quality clothing, with even big brands like Primark now accepting and then re-selling "pre-loved" items of clothing. It helps save tonnes of clothing from landfill.

According to the 2019 House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee, manufacturing clothing contributes more to climate change than international aviation and shipping together.

Brooke plans to open Monday to Saturday and close on Sunday.
