Drivers have been warned that making a common mistake could in fact be damaging your car. According to RAC Drive, resting your hand on the gearstick is a big no-no, and it's something many people do when they are waiting at the lights.
As a learner driver, it's likely your driving instructor told you that you need to keep both hands on the wheel at all times. However, many drivers develop bad habits once the 'L' plates are ditched. But did you know this can be bad for the transmission?
The car experts explain: "The gearstick is connected to a selector fork, which is designed to make contact with a rotating collar for a short amount of time. If you rest your hand on the gearstick, you risk applying pressure to the selector fork, causing premature wear."
In fact, it could be worth checking your manual as some specifically advise against resting your hand on the gearstick, the experts caution.
When it comes to L plates, a former driving examiner has revealed the best time for taking a driving test. Sharing insights online, he said that one particular time has the highest pass rates - and that's during the weekend - specifically in the morning.
Taking to TikTok, the expert @theexexaminer said that he was drawing on his own experience "from conducting weekend driving tests" but warned that it isn't that straightforward. Discussing the "cheat code" that everyone is looking for, he explains: "In my personal opinion, the easiest time to take your driving test is on a Saturday or Sunday morning. I keep getting the question in my lives [live streams] when should I book my driving test for? What's the easiest day to book my test for? That's my opinion."
