The huge news that Hull will take centre stage during Coldplay’s world tour next year has been greeted with excitement.
Glastonbury giants Coldplay will head to East Yorkshire next August as part of their Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025. Listed as their only European dates in 2025, fans will be able to see Coldplay live at Sewell Group Craven Park Stadium in Hull on Monday and Tuesday, August 18 and 19, even before London’s Wembley Stadium gets to host the megastars.
Tickets will go on sale on Friday, September 27 at 9am via TicketMaster, for the concerts, with Coldplay teasing a mystery guest who has yet to be announced. The band’s new album, Moon Music, is out on Friday, October 4 and fans who pre-order from the official Coldplay UK and EU stores have been offered first access to tickets for the tour.
Paul Lakin, chief executive at Hull KR, whose home is Sewell Group Craven Park, said: “We are truly delighted to bring the world’s biggest band to east Hull. Sewell Group Craven Park will be rocking for two consecutive nights for the biggest show the city has ever seen.
“We can’t wait to proudly represent the whole region and North of England, as part of the only European dates announced outside of London. The stadium is no stranger to big acts, with Hull’s very own Beautiful South selling out 25,000 tickets in our 2017 City of Culture year, alongside other major concerts from The Who, Little Mix, Rod Stewart and Tom Jones.
“However this is on another level, with Coldplay bringing their full, and same production that will be inside Wembley Stadium, nothing will be scaled back. We have a fantastic relationship with SJM Concerts, and we’d like to place on record our thanks to them for making this happen, for what is set to be two very special nights.”
Cllr Mike Ross, leader of Hull City Council, said: “This announcement is fantastic for Hull. To have a world-renowned act such as Coldplay performing in Hull really demonstrates how the city has become a culture and tourism destination.
“I have no doubt that residents right across the city will be extremely excited by this huge news. While I am sure everyone who attends will enjoy themselves, we also hope the city benefits economically and more while Coldplay joins us in Hull.”
